A Manchester-based independent corporate finance firm that operates across the UK has bolstered its structured finance team with a new senior appointment to support the continued expansion of the business.

John Platt joined PMD Business Finance from Natwest’s Corporate Banking team, where he worked for 14 years, most recently as Relationship Manager.

In his new role as Director of Structured Finance, John will assist clients across the UK on all aspects of structured finance needs, including acquisitions, corporate buyouts, corporate trusts for employees ( EOT), restructuring and growth capital. The company’s structured finance division was formed by PMD’s Callum Bull in 2020 and has since grown rapidly, supporting over £ 60million in transactions.

John will also lead a new real estate finance division which will see PMD offer specialist brokerage services such as commercial mortgages and development finance.

Tom Brown, Director of PMD Business Finance, said: “Over the past year, PMD has grown from £ 150million in loans annually to around £ 180million across a variety of industries and clients.

“John’s appointment is an important part of our ambition to reach £ 250million in loans over the next 12 months and further solidify our position as the UK’s largest independent financial intermediary.

“Over the past few months, we have seen a significant increase in the demand for real estate financing, from both introducers and clients. We are excited to launch a new real estate finance division to meet the needs of new and existing clients in this area.

John’s hiring is the latest in a series of executive appointments at PMD in recent months, bringing the company’s total workforce to 50.

PMD is based in Oldham, Greater Manchester, and was acquired earlier this year by its management team – Tom Brown, Lee Schofield and Rob Dermody – from founders Peter Dobson and Mike Rodgers.

With over 150 lines of finance, PMD provides solutions for businesses looking to grow, improve cash flow, purchase real estate or acquire plant, machinery and vehicles. In addition, he also assists companies through his structured finance team in debt restructuring as well as the financing of acquisitions, executive buyouts, EOTs and commercial sales.

John Platt said: “I am delighted to take this step in my career, a step that will allow me to be part of the history of one of the UK’s most exciting independent finance providers. I have known the PMD team for many years and look forward to using all of my experience to assist PMD clients and introducers with their structured finance and real estate finance needs.
