Amritsar: Three unidentified armed persons looted an employee of a financial company identified as Gurbhej Singh from the village of Mianwala in Tarn Taran of Rs 90,000. Along with his friend Rahul Jadav, he works at Bharat Finance having its branch at Dolenangal Road in Baba Bakala Sahib to collect the recovery amount. He said on Friday around 2 p.m. they were coming from the side of Tarsikka after collecting money, when three people came on a bullet and arrested them at gunpoint. They had covered their faces. They grabbed the money and fled from the scene. The police have registered a case in this regard while further investigation is underway. TNS

Immigration fraud: 2 accused

Amritsar: Ranjit Avenue Police have charged two people, including a woman from a Chandigarh-based immigration firm, with allegedly deceiving a local resident on the pretext of sending him abroad. Wilson Warris told police that Pooja Mahajan and Lovish Mahajan, having their immigration firm at Sector 42 in Chandigarh, defrauded him of Rs 5.50 lakh on the pretext of sending his son Ankash Warris to Canada. Neither did they send him overseas nor returned the money, he alleged. Police have registered a case under Sections 420, 120-B of the IPC and Section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professionals Regulation Act against the duo. No arrests have been made so far. Police said investigations are ongoing. TNS

BJP leader calls for Bhullar’s release

Amritsar: Sarchand Singh, spokesperson for Damdami Taksal, who had recently joined the BJP, wrote a letter to the Chairman of the Commission for National Minorities, seeking the release of Davinderpal Singh Bhullar from prison. Sarchand said Bhullar had spent 27 years in prison and the central government had granted relaxation to eight Sikh prisoners on the 550th anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak Dev. Sarchand alleged that the AAP government in Delhi failed to clear the record of Bhullar’s release.
